Voters in the longtime Democratic stronghold of Detroit are divided when it comes to next year's race for governor, a development that could boost Republicans' chances, according to a new poll from The Detroit News and WDIV-TV (Channel 4).

The survey asked 500 likely voters in Detroit's Nov. 4 mayoral election about two potential match-ups in the campaign to replace Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who can't run again in 2026 because of term limits.
