Indian opener Pratika Rawal became the joint fastest in the world to surpass 1,000 runs in Women’s ODIs on Thursday. The right-hander equalled former Australian cricketer, the late Lindsay Reeler’s record.
She needed 12 runs to reach the 1000-run mark and broke Deepti Sharma’s record (29) to become the fastest Indian to go past the 1000-run mark.
By scoring 18 runs in India’s previous group stage match against England in Indore, she could have reached the milestone in just her 22nd innings, breaking the record set by Reeler, who achieved it in 23 innings 37 years ago on December 18, 1988. However, she got out for only six runs in 14 balls, chasing a short and wide ball, bottom-edging it to the wicketkeeper for a caught behind.
