ON THIS DAY IN 1871 , the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported, “LONDON, OCT. 21 ― The ex-Emperor Napoleon has returned to Chiselhurst. On his journey thither he was ‘interviewed’ by a correspondent of the Bath Argus (a conservative newspaper), to whom he declared his belief that the present government of France was weak and inadequate to the wants of the country.”

ON THIS DAY IN 1904 , the Eagle reported, “LIVERPOOL, OCT. 22 ― The Rt. Rev. Randall Thos. Davidson, archbishop of Canterbury, landed here this evening. He was welcomed by a large assemblage of clergymen, whom he addressed from a saloon car of a London train.
