Former state senator Phil Williams and Thomas Govan Jr. have been nominated by President Donald Trump to become U.S. Attorneys for Alabama.

According to a release from the White House , Govan was nominated to become the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama while Williams is the prospective U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama.

Williams served as an Alabama senator from 2010 to 2018 before stepping down. In 2017, Williams sponsored the state’s anti-trans “bathroom bill” amid a larger nationwide emphasis on the topic.

Williams is also a managing member of Williams, Driskill, Huffstutler & King, LLC law firm and the host of conservative radio program “Rightside Radio .”
