A pensioner who sexually abused and took indecent photos of a young girl has been jailed.

Terry Blackmore appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday where he was sentenced to five years and four months in prison.

The 78-year-old, of no fixed abode in the Warrington area, had previously pleaded guilty to taking indecent photographs, possession of indecent photographs, four counts of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, and assault of a girl under 13 by touching under clothing.

The court heard how Blackmore repeatedly assaulted his victim over a 12-month period. Following the sentencing, Det Con Heidi Ryder praised the victim's bravery in coming forward to report the abuse.
