LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One person has died and another was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash early Thursday in Lexington.

According to Lexington Police, the crash happened just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Athens Boonesboro Road and Doe Run. Officers say the driver of one vehicle died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Their current condition has not been released.

Police closed outbound Athens Boonesboro Road near Hays Boulevard for several hours overnight while the crash reconstruction unit investigated.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
