JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash on the Westbank early Thursday morning, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. when deputies responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Holmes Boulevard and Athena Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found that a man had been ejected from the motorcycle.

Deputies said the victim received medical treatment by EMS personnel but later died on the scene due to his injuries.

JPSO believes the motorcyclist was headed northbound on Holmes Blvd. before the crash. "At some point, the rider struck a barrier in the roadway, causing him to lose control," a release said.
