The plant, part of the Comprehensive Sewerage Scheme for Greater Srinagar, was launched under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) at an estimated cost of Rs 143 crore, later revised to Rs 157 crore.

Speaking to reporters, Garg said the 60 MLD facility, executed by the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) under the Housing and Urban Development Department, has already begun trial operations. Once commissioned, it will immediately serve around 1
