Instead, the Hornets served the Brooklyn Nets a 48-minute dose of experience on just how much growing up they’ll need to do this season.

“I know this is the first game, I know there are a lot of emotions. But we were doing things with no purpose, just running around and running around,” Nets coach Jordi Fernández ceded following Brooklyn’s season-opening 136-117 loss to the Hornets before 19,156 fans at the Spectrum Center.

Charlotte (1-0), which won only 19 games last season, looked like the Harlem Globetrotters at times, getting whatever it wanted from anywhere on the floor as the Nets (0-1) surrendered 111 points through the first three quarters.
