INDIANAPOLIS -- Taxes are set to be lowered at gasoline pumps next month across the Hoosier state.

According to an Indiana Department of Revenue notice, Indiana's gasoline use tax rate will be 16.7 cents a gallon beginning on Nov. 1. This marks a decrease from October's rate of 18 cents.

The notice explains how officials reached this number, sharing its statewide average pre-tax price for gasoline, which was $2.3795 a gallon between the Sept. 16 and Oct. 15 tracking period.

Indiana also imposes a gasoline tax of 36 cents a gallon that increases by one cent every year on July 1. The federal gas tax rate is also locked in at 18.4 cents a gallon and has remained unchanged for the last 32 years.
