Season eight of the Doug Ford Show debuted at the Ontario legislature in Toronto this week, but the premier … er, sorry, the _premiere_ was remarkably disappointing. Teasers had suggested a return to last spring’s plot line featuring a dramatic battle with U.S. President Donald Trump and bold moves to protect Ontario workers.
In the show’s last season, Premier Doug Ford presented himself as a kind of Jack Reacher action hero, saying “I will do whatever it takes to protect Ontario.” Ford was the tough guy the province needed to go after Trump, maybe even threaten to kick his “ass all over the parking lot,” like a shoplifter at Home Depot.
Instead, Ontario’s political superhero is going to grapple with — wait for it — government red tape.
