Tropical Storm Melissa is barely moving in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. The storm has winds near 50 mph and is moving NW at 5 mph.
Melissa is expected to stay over the same area for a few days before turning west this weekend toward Jamaica and southwestern Haiti. Advertisement
Melissa is still fighting strong winds high in the sky, called wind shear, which makes it harder to grow. However, later this weekend or early next week, those winds will calm down and the storm could get much stronger. If that happens, Melissa could become a major hurricane as it moves across the Caribbean.
