This year’s scarecrow showdown is underway in downtown New Baltimore.

Back for its 20th year, the scarecrow contest drew 23 entries that are now displayed for voting along Washington Street. Each scarecrow is numbered and affixed to a lamppost.

Voting is open through Nov. 2. Stop in any downtown business with a “vote here” sign in the window to pick your favorite entry.

Winners will be announced Nov. 3. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: adult, children’s and local organization/business. First place wins a $100 cash prize. Second-place winners get $50.

Contest organizer Sandy McClure launched the competition 20 years ago with her friend, the late Nancy Gruca, and Ride The Wave. Scarecrows of all types have decorated the city as part of the contest over the years.
