HUDSON YARDS, Manhattan (WABC) -- A construction worker has died after falling 50 feet down a hole on Thursday morning.

It happened at 605 W. 30th Street just before 9 a.m.

Police say the worker was on the ground floor when he fell about five stories into the hole underground.

He was rescued and rushed to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive his injuries.

The construction worker was working on what is commonly known as the Gateway Tunnel and was employed by the New York Concrete Corporation.

All work is suspended while the incident is investigated.
