Nike on Thursday unveiled several daring new products, a showcase aimed at underscoring the company’s innovation reboot under CEO Elliott Hill.
The products include a battery-powered walking shoe, a jacket that inflates and a sneaker that can mimic the sensation of walking on grass.
“This is like Christmas morning for us,” Phil McCartney, Nike’s chief innovation, product and design officer, told a handful of journalists during a preview event at Nike’s Washington County headquarters two weeks ago.
Whether Thursday’s products become hits won’t be known for months, if not years, but the splashy launch signals Hill’s commitment to taking risks and cranking the innovation lever, two of Nike’s historic strengths, as he works to spark sluggish sales .
