Students at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute will have a hands-on look at the inner workings of mining equipment, quite literally.
Marco Desjardins, Epiroc Canada regional manager for mid-west Canada, delivered an underground mining drill to the school's technology department on Tuesday.
"The students have an item they can disassemble and reassemble and get their hands on and feel for the heavy industrial technical side of things," Desjardins said.
The drill is used to create bore holes where explosives can be placed during mining operations.
The donation followed a fieldtrip by the students to the Central Canada Resource Expo held in Thunder Bay last month, where they met with Desjardins and members of Epiroc Canada.
