A day after a 16-year-old Walter L. Cohen High School student was shot dead while walking to a school bus, New Orleans police confirmed the teen was killed by a 20-year-old man who then turned the gun on himself.

The New Orleans Police Department confirmed Thursday that the shooting in the 1800 block of Jo Ann Place in the Behrman neighborhood is being investigated as a murder-suicide. Neither the girl nor the alleged shooter had been officially identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as of Thursday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 7:49 a.m. Wednesday, where they found the girl and alleged shooter lying in the street near Jo Ann Place and Copernicus Street.
