Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government is set to amend the Assam Land Ceiling Act to facilitate the distribution of land among members of the Tea Tribe community.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said that once the amendment is implemented, around 2.9 lakh bighas of land will be distributed among nearly 4 lakh families belonging to the community.

“The Cabinet has given its nod to the proposal in principle. If we amend Assam’s Land Ceiling Act, we can distribute 2 lakh 90 thousand bighas of land to the Tea Tribe community, benefiting about 4 lakh people. The total land is nearly 3 lakh bighas,” said CM Sarma.
