A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of former Fall River mayor William A. Flanagan on Monday , police said in a social media post.

During his arrest Tuesday morning, Corree Gonzales, 31, assaulted Fall River police officers resulting in four additional charges of assault and battery on a police officer, police said.

It is unclear how many officers he allegedly assaulted. Police also did not say what charges he faces in connection with the stabbing.

“We would like to thank our officers and detectives for their tenacity and commitment in swiftly apprehending Corree Gonzales and ensuring the safety of our community,” the post said.
