New York State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian that happened overnight on Pre Emption Road in the Town of Geneva, Ontario County.

911 dispatchers received reports of a "deceased individual" in the southbound lane of Pre Emption Road at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 23, according to troopers.

Police said a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

Troopers said an autopsy from the Ontario County Coroner is pending.

A preliminary investigation found that the man was hit by a vehicle traveling south on Pre Emption Road. The vehicle then fled the scene, according to troopers.

The investigation is ongoing.
