An bid to save an art masterpiece found hidden at school has failed after a second attempt to get the "rare and beautiful" mural listed was rejected.
The mural is now scheduled to be destroyed next month despite two heritage groups backing a campaign by the artist's great nephew for it to be preserved.
As reported in the Manchester Evening News , a fresh application was made for the work to be listed after new expert opinion suggested it could be salvaged.
The mural from 1954, The Five Joyful Mysteries of the Virgin's Rosary, filled a whole wall in the entrance foyer of St Ambrose Barlow RC School before being covered with white paint.
The building in Shaftsbury Road, is now owned by Salford City Council after the school moved to a brand new site in Wardley.
