Protesters said two people have been injured in early morning clashes with Customs and Border Protection agents arriving in Oakland Thursday morning as part of President Trump ’s long-anticipated expansion of immigration enforcement operations in the Bay Area .

Activists told KQED that vans of CBP personnel arrived at the bridge leading to Alameda’s Coast Guard Island around 7 a.m. They drove slowly through crosswalks and streets filled with throngs of protesters attempting to block their access to the base.

One agent threw what appeared to be a flash-bang grenade into the crowd, and a van drove over the ankle of an organizer who was attempting to speak with the agents inside, activists said.
