SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The USDA will be encouraging Americans to eat more red meat as part of its plan to support the beef industry.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins released a plan for American ranchers and consumers this week. The release of the plan follows President Donald Trump's recent suggestion that the U.S. could buy more beef from Argentina as a way to help lower the retail cost. The idea has been opposed by numerous cattle producers and agricultural organizations.

Cattle prices dropped significantly after Trump's remarks on Argentine beef and his social media posts on cattle producers getting good prices because of his tariffs on imported beef, and that he also had to think about consumers.
