CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The University of Illinois Police Department requested a SWAT team and has multiple roads closed as they respond to an "ongoing criminal investigation."

According to UIPD, officers are at a home in the 50 block of East Springfield Avenue executing a search warrant. They requested a SWAT team due to the potential of weapons and additional people inside.

Springfield Avenue between Neil Street and Second Street and First Street between Green Street and White Street are closed to set up a perimeter.

Police are asking people to avoid the area. This is an ongoing situation. WAND is working to learn more.
