Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy will headline a new Manitoba film training program designed to open doors for underrepresented communities across the province.

Film Training Manitoba (FTM) and DOC Manitoba announced Friday the launch of the Northern & Diverse Creators Program, an initiative funded by the Canada Media Fund that aims to expand opportunities for rural, northern, Indigenous, Black and 2SLGBTQ+ Manitobans in the film and television industry.

Kennedy — a two-time Academy Award nominee and Primetime Emmy winner — will lead masterclasses in Churchill and Winnipeg later this month, part of a 12-stop program offering free training sessions to 220 emerging creators.
