Former Lake Taylor High football stars Mike Privott and Wayne Davis love and adore their former coach, Hank Sawyer.

The only day the current Maury assistant coaches don’t root for him is when they go against him, which will happen on Friday when the top-ranked Commodores (6-1 overall, 4-0 district) travel to No. 11 Lake Taylor (7-1, 6-0) for an Eastern District showdown.

The Commodores have won six consecutive district titles and 33 straight district games. Maury has outscored its four district opponents 292-6 this season and will finish the regular season against Manor (2-5) and Granby (2-6).

Lake Taylor, which shared the title with Maury in 2018, has lost four in a row to the Commodores and five of the last six.
