MANISTEE – If you just go by season records, then the Fremont boys soccer team should be favored in Friday night’s Division 3 regional championship game against Manistee in Clare at 6 p.m.

The Packers are 20-0-2 on the season and won the West Michigan Conference title, while the Mariners come in with a 12-8-1 ledger.

But, the games aren’t played on paper, and the Mariners have shown a degree of resilience in the playoffs with two overtime wins, including a 4-3 shootout decision over Standish-Sterling in the semifinals.
