Australia is heading into a weekend of extreme and unpredictable weather, with Sky News Meteorologist Tamsin Green warning of everything from record-breaking heat and severe storms to icy blasts and late-season snow.
Green said the intense heat which has dominated northern Australia will continue to build across Queensland and the Northern Territory, with some towns on track to challenge all-time October records.
“The focus of the heat is still across the north,” she said.
“So, the Northern Territory and also across Queensland, where we're really seeing that heat build, we have basically a bubble of hot air that is funnelling in from the north-west and continuing to do so across Queensland.”
Longreach has already seen three consecutive days above 42°C, while Mount Isa has exceeded 40°C
