Australian business owners have been warned about the crucial details in contracts they must carefully consider after a landmark working from home case was decided in favour of a major bank’s employee.
New South Wales mother and Westpac employee Karlene Chandler won the right to permanently work from home after taking the bank to the Fair Work Commission.
Ms Chandler was allowed to work from home after she had a child and sought to continue working from her home, which was located about two hours away from her office.
She lived in Wilton, south of Sydney, and would look after her two six-year-old children and take them to a nearby school.
Westpac’s new CEO Anthony Miller then joined the company and ordered all workers into the office for at least two days a week.
