The Toledo Zoo has been celebrating its 125th anniversary with a special symposium this week.
On Wednesday, the second day of the three-day event, the focus was on collaborations the zoo has made with researchers in Africa, Asia, South America, and Australia.
The Toledo Zoo has sent experts to other parts of the world to help save animals large and small from going extinct. It also has been a source of financial support for animals overseas that need help thriving in the wild because of poaching, wartime tensions, illegal trafficking, climate change, and other issues.
In the case of rescued gorillas in Cameroon, it has helped support a rescue shelter, the 30-year-old Limbe Wildlife Centre that bills itself as “a second chance for victims of the illegal wildlife trade.”
