Trey Yesavage starts the World Series opener for the Toronto Blue Jays. He was on the mound at Nat Bailey Stadium only 145 days ago.
The Blue Jays named Yesavage their starter for Game 1 Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday morning. The 22-year-old rookie sensation has excelled in these playoffs, to the tune of a 1-0 record, a 4.20 earned run average and 22 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Toronto’s 2024 first-round draft pick (No. 20 overall) out of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., Yesavage pitched at all four full-season minor league stops in the Blue Jays’ system this year before arriving with Toronto. That included a four-game stay with the Vancouver Canadians, who at high-A are the second rung on that development ladder.
He’s the 10th player in baseball since 20
