NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A large portion of the mural along Antioch Pike is official done, bringing a bright touch to one of Nashville's busiest roadways.
But the paint has a much bigger purpose than just aesthetics—it's part of a broader strategy to make roadways safer for all.
Leaders in Nashville are always looking for ways to make our roads safer. One way is through tactical urbanism, which refers to temporary, low-cost ways to fix long-term issues.
The new mural along Antioch Pike is pleasant to look at, but the hope is it will also slow drivers down.
Several months ago, crews installed delineators along Antioch Pike as a tactical urbanism method to reduce speeders.
According to the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, the plan has worked.
