The state of New Jersey has sued Amazon for alleged discrimination against employees who are pregnant and employees with disabilities.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin filed a criminal complaint that was released Oct. 22.

In the complaint, Platkin alleges that Amazon violated the state’s anti-discrimination laws for workers in New Jersey Amazon warehouses.

Why is New Jersey suing Amazon?

Platkin’s filed complaint alleges that Amazon has placed pregnant workers on unpaid leave, has retailed against workers who take a leave, and has fired workers who are pregnant or disabled.

“While Amazon considers employees’ accommodation requests, it automatically places the requesting worker on unpaid leave, denying them a paycheck and a chance to continue working,” the complaint reads
