NEW YORK — The Alzheimer's Foundation of America is reminding caregivers of the importance of a safe Halloween this holiday season.
Halloween is approaching quickly, and the spooky season could be too scary for some, especially loved ones with dementia-related illnesses. According to the AFA, Halloween can be full of frightening sights and sounds that create more challenges for someone living with Alzheimer's.
This season, the AFA is advising family caregivers to be mindful of what is too scary or just the right amount with these five tips. • Avoid interactive decorations - Halloween decor that screams or lunges when someone passes by them can be distressing for those living with dementia. Any flickering or flashing lights might cause them to wander, possibly away from their home. The
