GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Documents are revealing what happened with the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s fine against Santee Cooper after a deadly coal mound collapse.
Cody Jordan was operating a bulldozer on May 23, 2024, at the Santee Cooper Winyah Generating Station in Georgetown County when he was killed in a coal mound collapse.
OSHA requires workplace deaths to be reported within eight hours.
According to OSHA documents received in response to a FOIA request, Santee Cooper did not report the death, resulting in a $3,500 fine from OSHA.
Santee Cooper contested the fine, arguing that the company Jordan worked for, EMCOR, a contractor Santee Cooper has used for years, reported the death.
