Trump announced the decision on Thursday following a conversation with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie the night before.
Driving the news: Trump has deployed federal troops to certain cities across the nation, including Chicago, Portland and Memphis, as well as Los Angeles earlier this year. • Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, a longtime Democratic donor, also recently called on Trump to send the National Guard to clean up San Francisco and fight crime. • Trump said earlier this month that government officials have requested that he send the National Guard to San Francisco, although he did not name who those officials were.
