INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Metro Police Department released a draft of its strategic plan for the next five years based on input from the public and its officers. Department leaders say the goal is to address urgent concerns like trust, public safety and improving conditions on the force.

Only half of community members who answered IMPD's survey feel the department is trustworthy. Less than half believe IMPD is accountable to the community.

Those are just a couple of the standout statistics that informed this first draft.

Roughly 2,200 neighborhood voices were raised, spanning every Marion County zip code - the majority sharing they'd report a crime, but 17% feeling less safe when officers are nearby due to existing distrust or a previous negative interaction with police.
