Nov. 1, 2000, marked the 200th anniversary of John Adams becoming the first president to move into the White House. Then-President Bill Clinton celebrated the occasion alongside historians and Adams' descendants. At the end of the ceremony, historical reenactors depicted Adams' arrival in 1800.
