Sovereignty, trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, heads a strong field of horses running in the Grade 1, $7 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar on Nov. 1. The first three finishers in last year’s Classic — Sierra Leone, Fierceness and Forever Young — are expected to run.

There were 207 pre-entries received for the 14 Grade 1 races featured over two days of racing, which begins on Friday Oct. 31 at the iconic Southern California oval. Among Sovereignty’s five wins this year are the Kentucky Derby, Belmont and Travers. Mott is looking for his third win in the Classic. The first came with Cigar at Belmont Park in 1995.
