The five-person crew at the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s sign shop cranks out nearly 1,500 signs every month that people see across the state of Connecticut.

From stop signs, speed limits, town lines, and detours, the team has hundreds of sign templates in their repository. The design process starts on the computer before it is sent to a massive printer.
At nearly 200 degrees, the design is printed onto reflective material in the signature highway palette (yellow, orange, green, white, and more!).
“Ink is shot into the material, so it dries everything right to the touch,” said shop supervisor Daniel Cruz.
