SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler is putting his stamp on professional sports in San Diego, but the six-time NBA All-Star has his sights set on a game other than hoops.

It was announced Monday that Butler has joined San Diego Wave FC as a minority investor.

“Soccer has been a passion of mine for a long time, and being part of the game in a meaningful way has always been a dream,” Butler said in a press release. “San Diego has become a city close to my heart, and I’m proud to invest in a Club that is pushing boundaries, building something lasting."

Butler also said in the release that he aims to set a new standard for what women's sports can be in San Diego, on and off the field.
