GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Under a new agreement, the City of Wyoming will be sending sewage to the City of Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids City Commission approved a six-month agreement Tuesday to accept and process wastewater sludge from the City of Wyoming, utilizing newly available capacity at the city's Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF).

Under the deal, Wyoming will pay Grand Rapids $0.068 cents per gallon to process the sludge at the WRRF on the city's southeast side. The agreement runs through February 2026, with an option to extend for another six months.

The partnership became possible after Grand Rapids reorganized its wastewater treatment operations this summer. In July, the city stopped directing concentrated waste into one of its digesters, which are large tanks that break
