Concerns over uncounted ballots, long lines to vote and a longer time to count ballots have prompted Elections Edmonton and the Alberta government to launch an independent audit of the last Monday’s election, says a mayoral candidate.
“This is not about contesting results or questioning the legitimacy of Andrew Knack’s victory,” said Better Edmonton leader Tim Cartmell, who finished in second place. “Andrew is our duly elected mayor, and I fully respect that outcome.
“What happened in the Sipiwiyiniwak ward — where hundreds of additional ballots were discovered and a recount reversed the result of the election — raises serious questions about the accuracy, transparency, and accountability of the entire election process. We must understand how this happened.
