BOSTON (WPRI) — A letter in August hit the inboxes of New Bedford and Attleboro public schools informing both that some of their MCAS essay scores would need to be regraded after an AI glitch.

"All updated scores are higher than the previously released preliminary scores," the email read.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Education confirmed 1,400 test scores were affected by the glitch. WBTS-TV first reported the glitch involved 192 school districts across the state.

A spokesperson said the mistake was found over the summer and fixed before the scores were released in late September. The education department added that the glitch affected 0.2% of the 750,000 essay scores the state received.
