DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)—After years of delays and uncertainty, Onondaga County is taking the lead on redeveloping ShoppingTown Mall, and County Executive Ryan McMahon said the change in direction is a good thing.
The county is now steering the long-awaited project, shifting away from the original development team to pursue what McMahon calls a "larger-scale opportunity" for DeWitt.
"The project and the opportunity are at a different scale now, and so, given a fresh look into the marketplace with total site control is in our interest. It's in the county's interest; it's in the taxpayers' interest," McMahon said.
He also said the next phase isn't about starting over, it's about expanding the vision. The county plans to bring in apartments, retail, and high-tech research and development. Th
