GOODHUE, Minn. - Currently, the United States allows Argentina to import 20,000 tons of beef tariff-free, but discussions are underway to potentially quadruple that. This would equal 176 million pounds of Argentinian beef entering the U.S.
While this seems like a huge amount, U.S. beef production stands at 500 million pounds each week. Some ranchers believe that the tariffs on Argentinian beef may not significantly impact the industry.
"I would love that to be U.S. beef. I think in the big picture, we have a lot more crucial issues that we need to address beyond bringing in an extra 60,000 metric tons of beef from Argentina," Bruce Waugh of Cannon Valley Ranch said.
