A new skatepark may soon roll out in North Padre Island’s Billish Park.

Proposed for development at the 11-acre park off Gypsy Street, the skatepark will serve as a significant new addition to the park's featured amenities, which include a playground and fitness trail, according to the city’s parks and recreation website.

The board that oversees allocation of tax incentives on the island approved on Oct. 14 allocating as much as $850,000 to back the design and construction of the skatepark. The decision was affirmed by the City Council on Oct. 21.
