In a significant move, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved multiple private Aeromedical Evaluation Centres (AMECs) to conduct medical examinations for pilots, air traffic controllers, and other licence holders.

The empanelled facilities include Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Indore, and Delhi, along with Max Multi Speciality Centre in New Delhi, and Medanta Mediclinic in Gurugram.

All centres are authorised to carry out Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 medicals under DGCA oversight.

The decision, effective November 15, 2025, will mark a clear shift from the earlier system, where the DGCA had mandated that pilots undergo every fifth medical examination exclusively at Indian Air Force (IAF) facilities.
