SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - As the debate over importing beef from Argentina continues, another question is rising: Where does the beef on your plate come from?
Which package of beef would you buy? If one were labeled from the US and another from Argentina, or another foreign country, would it affect your decision?
A proposal to reinstate country of origin labeling (COOL) would give you that information before you buy.
Beef can be labeled US even if it was imported as a large cut and further processed stateside.
The country of origin labeling was repealed in 2015 after pressure from Canada, Mexico and the World Trade Organization.
