LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Some Arkansas middle school students are proving it’s never too early to learn about investing.

Eighth graders at Pinnacle View Middle School are competing in the statewide Stock Market Game, a program that gives students $100,000 in virtual cash to invest in real stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. In just six weeks, one team has already turned that imaginary portfolio into $135,000 — leading their region and ranking among the top performers in the state.

The program, facilitated by Economics Arkansas through the SIFMA Foundation, helps students learn about finance, math, and economics in a hands-on way. Nearly 3,000 teams across Arkansas are taking part this fall in divisions ranging from elementary to high school.
